Goals

  • Able to develop search phrases and use search technics for finding online information
  • Critically evaluate information for a variety of source and medium, including credibility of site, author and judging if it is a primary, secondary or tertiary source
  • Deal with complexity by breaking questions into simple ones, limiting the scope of investigation Able to synthesize and evaluated a variety of views into new knowledge
  • Follow ethical and legal guidelines in gathering and using information

Objectives

Practical ability to successfully conceptualize, find, analyze and use information sources, share information using a variety of technology while respecting intellectual ownership and giving appropriate credit.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • CLO1 Demonstrate information literacy through practical application of finding information, critically evaluating the source and content, and then able to synthesize several sources into new knowledge by using variety of computer platforms, search services and other digital resources
  • CLO2 Assess digital culture, its influence and impact on how new knowledge is made and organized
  • CLO3 Recognize copyright, creative commons and other intellectual property right and the appropriate way sharing of information with other, given ethical and legal boundaries
  • CLO4 Discuss the tradeoff between allowing access to all information versus respecting the new data protection and privacy laws
